Being able to read & understand food labels correctly is very important. Many food items can be labeled as “healthy” if it’s lower calorie or higher in protein but the ingredient list will be the determining factor of whether it is a healthy option or not.

The first ingredient on the list contains the largest amount within that food item. For an example, if you are looking at an item and the first ingredient is wheat, this means that most of that food items consists of wheat. The ingredient at the bottom of the list contains much less within that food item.

Foods that have a smaller ingredient list are usually a better option due to the likelihood of that product having less artificial ingredients and sweeteners.

Eating WHOLE foods that don’t come in a box or a container are always recommended. If you choose to eat something that comes in a box or container, be sure that you are familiar with the ingredients labeled.
